Wheat Research Study Results - 2004
Martinsville, Illinois
A sound soil fertility program including Pellet Lime is important for profitable wheat production.
Adequate amounts of the essential plant nutrients including calcium and magnesium must be available when needed by the crop. With proper nutrition, the two-year average of testing with Pellet Lime shows a nearly 10 bushel improvement in yield over the N/P/K check.
Comments
All plots were estimated to be 15-25% infected with wheat scab (gibberella saubinettii). Observations showed treatments 3 & 4, with Pellet Lime showed a lesser degree of infection. Winter weather conditions were mild and wheat plant heaving was minimal. Spring soil moisture conditions were very favorable for wheat development.

*Wheat $3.60/B; Pellet Lime $4.5/cwt; Pre-test sampling: OM 2.2%; soil pH 6.4; CEC 11.4; P1 32 ppm; K2O 155 ppm. The Research Data presented are results from: Arise Research & Discovery, Martinsville, Illinois; Director: Roy Stephen
Summary
The nitrogen only treatment recorded significant yield reduction in the 4-replicated average. The introduction of a blended 9-23-30 increased the two-year replicated averages 17 bushels/acre. Pellet Lime at the 200 pound rate per acre applied in the fall preplant treatment #3 and a spring application in treatment #4 increased yield 7.43-9.62 bushel in replicated 2-yr averages over the N/P/K treatment. Pre-test soil samples do not give indication to soil fertility being restrictive in yield. The interaction in the soil with the application of Pellet Lime produced nutrient and plant growth factor synergism conductive to yield.

Alfalfa...
Pellet Lime increased harvested tonnage in all test years; crude protein content is significantly higher in the treated 2003 trials. Tests show improved seeding establishment and early plant health with Pellet Lime.
Soybeans...
Nine out of ten years soybeans treated with Pellet Lime significantly out yielded non-treated soybeans and netted big profits.
Wheat...
Pellet Lime applications with wheat successfully increased wheat quality and yield.
Corn...
Test results show a positive response to broadcast Pellet Lime.
Grass/Legume...
A 200 lb/ A Pellet Lime application out-yielded the control by over 2 ton/acre in our first year's testing. |
